Kinokuniya Sydney offers the experience of a true booklover’s haven in the city. Our spacious and tranquil environment, abundance of natural light and friendly informative staff make Kinokuniya a unique bookstore. Kinokuniya Sydney offers the largest range of books in Sydney with over 300,000 titles in English, Japanese, Chinese, French and German.

Located in the heart of Sydney CBD, Kinokuniya also stocks an extensive collection of Manga, graphic novels, art and design books, cookbooks, travel books and children’s literature. Our Chinese books and magazines are sourced from both Taiwan and mainland China and we also offer Japanese magazine subscription service. Kinokuniya also features an in-store Art Gallery which exhibits works from ambitious, creative, and talented artists to help them develop their careers. New exhibitions are shown every two weeks. Our cafe space is currently home to popular Sydney patisserie, Black Star Pastry, their signature Strawberry Watermelon Cake and fantastic Little Marionette coffee.

We also have a sales office located in the bookstore (within the art and design section) to service business and academic institutions.

Come and visit us today and discover that real bookstores do still exist.

Bringing Japan To You

The Japan Foundation, Sydney is the Australian arm of The Japan Foundation, a non-profit cultural organisation which was established by the Japanese government to promote cultural and intellectual exchange between Japan and other nations. We run a diverse range of programs and events, including exhibitions, talk events, grant programs and Japanese language courses for all levels from beginner to advanced.

Located in Sydney’s Central Park, our gallery exhibits Japan-related works throughout the year, from traditional through to contemporary pieces. Our library collection holds over 18,000 Japan-related items and provides a quiet reading and learning space overlooking Chippendale Green. The Japan Foundation, Sydney consists of three key departments: Arts and Culture, Japanese Language Education, and Japanese Studies and Intellectual Exchange.

Our current Director is Mr Yoshihiro Wada. The Japan Foundation was established in 1972 in Tokyo and has expanded to a global network of 25 offices in 24 countries. The Australian office was established in 1978. The Japan Foundation is running the Japonismes initiative in France from July 2018 to January 2019.
